Behind The Sound: Vivace
Aberdeen-based Vivace are quickly establishing themselves as a duo to watch within UK dance music. Blending elements from trance, speed garage, techno, and hard house, their sound is both emotionally driven and club-focused, resulting in something that feels distinctly their own.
For this edition of our Behind The Sound series, we spoke to Vivace about their transition from solo artists to a fully realised duo, the development of their sound, inspiration, collaboration, and the moments that have shaped their journey so far.
“Music was everything to us growing up. We both came from families where music was always around, so it naturally became part of who we are.”
Before Vivace existed, what did music mean to you individually, and what first drew you to electronic music?
Music was everything to us growing up. We both came from families where music was always around, so it naturally became part of who we are. As that passion grew, it naturally evolved into dance music. The emotion of what we loved combined with the energy we wanted to share.
You Both Had Momentum Individually, what made you decide to focus fully on Vivace rather than continuing to release individually?
There came a point in early 2024 where we both realised that there was both more longevity and more room for creativity in the sound we were pushing as Vivace. We would make so much music while being present with each other or as straight up collaborations that it seemed right to just become a duo and stop focusing on our solo efforts.
“Instead of limiting ourselves we focused on merging the elements we loved from each genre to make it our own.”
Your sound draws from trance, speed garage, techno and hard house, how did those influences begin to merge in your productions?
We’re really proud of our sound because finding your identity can feel like an endless void as an artist. For us it developed naturally. Through SoundCloud we discovered so many different subgenres of dance music, instead of limiting ourselves we focused on merging the elements we loved from each genre to make it our own. We also try to pay homage to our predecessors, especially in the way we produce, taking inspiration from sample driven approaches like Daft Punk and reinterpreting that in our own ways.
Can you tell us the story of how your collaboration with DJ Planet Express first came together?
We met Planet Express through Soundcloud in late 2023 / early 2024 and we’d always see his music on our related tracks section. We started to chat to him often and before long we’d started working on music together. A whole EP was something we’d wanted to do with him for a while as we loved his music, but it was sidelined until we did a remix for his track “Tell Me That You Need Me”, from there we got him on-board and started working on more music together in 2025.
What’s a challenge you’ve faced as a duo that people on the outside probably wouldn’t see?
Fortunately we’ve always had the same vision, so it’s never felt like friction more like momentum. Living together and creating together builds a natural chemistry, and we hold each other accountable every day. It feels less like compromise, and more like alignment.
When you look back at where you started individually and where you are now as a duo, what feels most significant about that journey?
When we look back at where we started individually, everything felt a bit scattered. We were experimenting, figuring ourselves out, and even when Vivace first formed we were still exploring. The turning point was creating our ‘Against All Odds’ EP. That was the moment everything clicked. It felt honest, cohesive, and truly representative of who we are. From then on, we knew exactly what direction we wanted to build toward.
